The photo below shows several cars loaded on an open car transport carrier. The ramps have to be adjusted carefully to be able to load cars on the top and bottom levels of the carrier. The ramps must then be readjusted so the cars will be stored safely while they are in transport. The ramps are controlled by hydraulic lifters like the one that is shown on the left side of the picture. The auto transport worker manipulates these lifters with a set of levers on the side of the car carrier. When shipping a vehicle the cars must be unloaded from the bottom level before you can unload the top level.
