First thing when shipping a vehicle is to make sure your car is operable and safe. Make sure steering and brakes are working properly because the auto transporter will have to drive your car on and off the carrier at some point during the delivery process.
Next have your vehicle checked for any leaking fluids. An auto transport truck is two levels and your car may be above another persons car. If your car leaks fluids such as coolant, battery fluid or oil on to another vehicle, you will be held responsible.
Auto accessories that may be come loose during transport should be removed if possible. If you intend on leaving them on make sure that they are securely fastened on your vehicle. Other non-permanent accessories such as ski, bike and luggage racks are required to be taken off before shipping a vehicle.
If your vehicle is going to a state were the climate is different be sure to make preparations before hand. For example, a car leaving Florida coming to New York in the winter should have engine coolant, transmission oil or other weather preparations taken care of before transportation.
